A year ago Location3 brought together some of the more environmentally-conscious staff members and created The Green Team. This crack group of planetary heroes developed a mission statement to guide our office towards more responsible policies.
Our Green Mission is: “To reduce our impact on the environment by raising awareness and fostering an eco-friendly and energy-conscious community in the office, at company-sponsored events and in our staff’s personal lives.”
To that end, The Green Team has shared some of the following tips with the office at company meetings:
- Use personal recycling bins for co-mingle.
- Turn off computers completely if possible at night and over weekends.
- Turn off monitors when they will not be in use for 20 minutes or more.
- Skip the screen savers: they keep the computer running at full power.
- Use the Location3 Media coffee mugs and metal water bottles provided to each employee rather than Styrofoam cups or plastic bottled water.
- A schedule was developed to use “old” coffee for iced coffee during the warm months.
- Used coffee grounds are available for employees to take home for garden fertilization and composting.
Are we missing any big tips to help reduce our consumption of resources?
If you have a moment, check out some of our favorite businesses and non-profits that help the environment:
BuyMyTronics: This company buys your old devices, pays you cash and recycles them responsibly. Electronics recycling through resale and reuse is important! Hundreds of thousands of used cell phones, mp3 players and other e-gadgets wind up in landfills every year. This is an easy way to help the planet (and your wallet).
Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC): Provides multidisciplinary research and development of innovative energy and environmental technologies for the protection of air, water and soil.
National Wildlife Foundation: Global warming, the loss of habitat, and people becoming more disconnected from nature than past generations are converging on a dangerous path for our planet. The work of NWF and our affiliates across the country provides answers to these challenges and will help ensure America’s wildlife legacy continues for future generations.
Denver Water: This government office is not a true non-profit, but their outreach campaign “Use Only What You Need” for us high-plains dwellers is much-appreciated by marketers.
